Ambassador Jane J. Chigiyal Presents Credential to UN Secretary-General

New York (FSM Permanent Mission to the United Nations): December 2, 2011 - The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) reached another milestone in its political history when its first female Ambassador presented credentials to the United Nations Secretary-General. The new Permanent Representative of the Federated States of Micronesia to the United Nations, Ms. Jane J. Chigiyal, presented her credentials on 2 December 2011 to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon as her country's first female Permanent Representative since the FSM joined the United Nations in 1991.

Prior to her appointment to the post of Permanent Representative, Ms. Chigiyal served as the Deputy Secretary for the FSM Department of Foreign Affairs from December 2009 to August 2011. She also served in various posts within the Department of Foreign Affairs including as Assistant Secretary for the Division of the Americas and European Affairs, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Americas subdivision, as well as a Foreign Service Officer in the Asian subdivision and the South Pacific subdivision.

Ms. Chigiyal is married to Mr. Matt Chigiyal.

Ambassador Chigiyal was accompanied to the ceremony by the Mission's Deputy Permanent Representative Mr. Jeem Lippwe, and Mission Legal Adviser Mr. Clement Yow Mulalap.
