Budget Office January 1997 Report

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): March 5, 1997 - The FSM Budget Review Committee, headed by Acting President Jacob Nena with members from the Office of Budget, Office of Administrative Services and Attorney General's representative completed its fiscal year 1998 budget review during the month of January 1997 and is preparing for submission to Congress for action, according to a report from the Office of Budget.

The 1998 FSM and States Budgets will follow a new format based on performance called Performance Budgeting Project which was introduced to the FSM by two consultants, Grahm Jones-Vaughn and Mike Walker from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Vaughn and Walker have visited all FSM States explaining how the new budgetary method works and installing new computer programs in the computers of the respective budget offices to be used for preparation of the new budgets.

The office processed $20,547,702 general fund allotments, $12,658,429 capital improvement program (CIP) allotments, and $5,027,590 Federal Grants allotments during January 1997.

Two Operation, Maintenance and Improvement Program (OMIP) applications totaling $741,000 were processed during the same period, said Acting Budget Officer Nick Andon.
