CRC Convenes 6th Regular Meeting in Palikir

Palikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services/Office of SBOC): March 24, 2009 - On Thursday, March 12, 2009, the FSM Compact Review Committee (CRC) convened its Sixth Regular Meeting in Palikir, Pohnpei. The CRC is comprised of a representative from each of the state governments as well as the National Government. Initiated by the Mori Administration in September 2007, the CRC's purpose is to formulate the FSM's recommendations to the US Executive Branch on its mandated review of the Amended Compact and eventual report to the US Congress. The Amended Compact requires the US President to report to the US Congress every five years on the progress of the treaty. The first report is due at the end of December 2009.

The Chairman of the CRC, SBOC Director Fabian Nimea, reported on a recent visit to Washington, D.C., during which he met with key players in the Five Year Review process. The meetings were productive in providing an impetus for further dialogue and collaboration on the Fifth Year Review.

The CRC also briefed members of the FSM Congress on the Committee's latest efforts. Chairman Nimea reported during the briefing that the CRC is encouraged by US support of approaching the Fifth Year Review as a joint effort. The CRC adjourned on Tuesday, March 17th.
