Ambassador Kim is Korea's new representative to FSM

Palikir, POHNPEI (Department of Foreign Affairs): June 21, 2005 - President Joseph J. Urusemal officially welcomed Ambassador Bong-Joo Kim as the Republic of Korea's new representative to the Federated States of Micronesia on June 1, 2005.

Since diplomatic ties were established on April 5, 1991, Ambassador Kim succeeds former Ambassador Byung-Yun Park as the fourth Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the FSM.

Ambassador Kim reaffirmed the "excellent ties of friendship since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1991" and reiterated the economic assistance which has been given to the FSM by the Korean Government since then.

President Urusemal mentioned that "one area of bilateral nature to note is the presence of the Korean Fishing Fleet in the FSM" and concluded that" through this fishing relationship, we have worked closely together even before the establishment of our diplomatic relations."

The ceremony was attended by members of the President's Cabinet and members of the Diplomatic Corps.
