FSM Executive Branch Honors Passing of FSM Congressman Resio S. Moses

Palikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): June 26, 2009 - On June 22, 2009, President Manny Mori signed a Presidential Proclamation on the occasion of the passing of the late Honorable Vice-Speaker and Dauk of U, Resio S. Moses of the State of Pohnpei. In the Proclamation, President Mori highlighted some of the educational and occupational achievements that Congressman Moses had over the years, including his election to Governor of the new State of Pohnpei (two consecutive terms), FSM Secretary for the Department of External Affairs, FSM Ambassador to the United Nations, and his election to the 10th through the 16th FSM Congresses. President Mori also proclaimed a national mourning period for four consecutive days commencing June 23 and ending on June 26, 2009, during which period the national Flag of the FSM shall be displayed at half-mast.

Since President Mori is currently off-island attending a forum in Sweden, Vice President Alik Alik led a delegation of FSM National Government employees to the funeral ceremony at the Moses residence in U on June 23, 2009. Accompanying the Vice President was Mrs. Alik, and some cabinet and staff of the FSM National Departments. At the ceremony, Vice President Alik gave remarks on behalf of the President and the Executive Branch. He stated that Vice Speaker's "contributions and achievements are a matter of public records as a traditional, state, and national leader, leaving a legacy that will be the envy of many of us public servants, in our own efforts to carry out our duties and responsibilities to serve those we are duty-bound to serve." And that, "His wisdom and vision are not only for those who know him today, but for generations to come as they will continue to be sources of inspiration and enrichment for all of us."

The delegation from the FSM Executive Branch stayed for the burial service, which took place around 12:30pm and brought with it the traditional offerings of pig, sakau, and breadfruit for the traditional portion of the service.
