FSM Election Director prepares for national Congress, ConCon elections

POHNPEI, Palikir (FSM Information Service): July 2000 - The FSM national election director has returned from a four-state visit where he met with state election commissioners in preparation for the upcoming FSM congressional general election and the constitutional convention election to be held in March 2001.

National Election Director Max Mallarme met with the four state commissioners in their states where he helped each find an office. He also discussed previous election difficulties, the commissioners' responsibilities, election preparation materials, and worked on updating registration on master lists and signature lists.

He also briefed them on their budget.

"I told them that no matter what they do, they must stay within their budget," said Mallarme.

A total of $50,000 must last the four state offices and the national office from June 15 to September 30, the end of the fiscal year.

The state election commissioners are Kun Olter, who will serve Kosrae State; Charles Chieng, who will serve Yap State; Kipier Lippwe, who will serve Chuuk State; and Bernell Edward, who will serve Pohnpei State.
