Marshall Islands and Palau Confirm Cases of H1N1

Palikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): July 15, 2009 - Both the Republic of Palau and the Republic of the Marshall Islands have confirmed cases of the H1N1 influenza A virus in their countries. Late last week, the Ministry of Health in Palau confirmed one case of H1N1 and on Monday, July 13th, the Office of the Secretary of Health in the Marshall Islands announced that the Ministry of Health has confirmed 4 cases of H1N1 in country. RMI is doing on-going surveillance and monitoring activities of these cases and asking the general public to stay calm and follow published prevention measures.

There continues to be no confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus in the FSM. Although some screening activities at the airports have been decreased, the Departments of Health continue to screen people arriving from areas with known cases of infection and are presenting symptoms of the flu. The public should continue to remain vigilant in following protective measures to help protect themselves and others from getting sick.
