Cholera numbers still up and down

POHNPEI, Palikir (FSM Information Service): August 2000 - Statistics from the Pohnpei Hospital still show a seesaw pattern in the number of people being treated for suspected cholera.

Since August 16, 48 people have been treated over the past six days. On August 16, 8 people received treatment. This was down from 13 reported on August 15. Nine people were treated on August 17; 10 people were treated on August 18. The number dipped to 5 people receiving treatment on August 19, but zoomed up to 10 people receiving treatment on August 20.

Only six people were reported receiving treatment for suspected cholera on August 21.

This brings to total 2,689 people who have received treatment for suspect cholera since April 17. Of those, 1,389 were treated at the Pohnpei State Hospital Outpatient Department/Emergency Room; 588 have been admitted to the hospital; 671 have received treatment at dispensaries; and 41 have been treated at private clinics.

Since August 16, all but one person have been treated at the Outpatient Department/Emergency Room or have been admitted to the hospital.
