Ambassador Akillino H. Susaia Presents Credentials to President Hu Jintao

Beijing, China (FSM Embassy, Beijing): August 10, 2010 - On July 30, 2010 at 10:00 am, His Excellency Ambassador Akillino Harris Susaia presented his credentials to His Excellency Hu Jintao, President of the People's Republic of China in an official ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China.

After accepting the credentials, President Hu escorted Ambassador Susaia to a meeting room in the Great Hall of the People where the two had a conversation. President Hu Jintao welcomed Ambassador Susaia to China and congratulated him for his appointment and for being the first resident Ambassador of the Federated States of Micronesia to China. President Hu Jintao noted Ambassador Susaia's prior experience as a cabinet official in the FSM National Government and said he believes this experience will be valuable to both the FSM and China. President Hu also encouraged the Ambassador to work closely with all the relevant Ministries of his Government to provide the needed coordination and assistance on how the relationship between the FSM and China can be effectively implemented and sustained.

In responding to President Hu Jintao, Ambassador Susaia conveyed greetings from President Emanuel Mori, the people, and Government of the Federated States of Micronesia. Ambassador Susaia thanked President Hu Jintao for accepting his credentials and said that he would do his best to contribute to the enhancement of the FSM-China Model Relationship.

Ambassador Susaia extended FSM's sincere appreciation for the continued support and assistance by China to the FSM's nation-building efforts through the provisioning of grant aid assistance, scholarships, technical assistance, and humanitarian aid. With regards to FSM's foreign policy towards China, Ambassador Susaia assured President Hu Jintao of FSM's commitment to its "One China Policy." In closing, Ambassador Susaia conveyed to President Hu Jintao FSM's desire to construct a permanent Chancery in Beijing and solicited his assistance towards the approval of a land parcel in Beijing for this Chancery.

President Hu Jintao responded to Ambassador Susaia's brief statement by reiterating his deep appreciation towards FSM's commitment to its One-China policy and re-affirmed China's commitment to maintain the cooperative relations with the FSM both at the bilateral and international levels.

Staffing Ambassador Susaia to his Presentation of Credentials Ceremony and meeting with President Hu Jintao was First Secretary Vincent K. Sivas. FSM and China established diplomatic relationship on September 11, 1989. China established its Embassy in the FSM in February of 1990 and posted its first resident Ambassador in June 1991. Currently Ambassador Zhang Weidong is the resident Ambassador of China in the FSM. FSM officially opened its Embassy in Beijing in April 2007 and Ambassador Akillino H. Susaia is the FSM's first resident Ambassador to China.
