UN recruiting drive begins soon

POHNPEI, Palikir (FSM Information Service): September 2000 - Attention college graduates. Time is running out.

The FSM Department of Foreign Affairs is issuing a call to college graduates interesting in working in the United Nations Secretariat in New York City.

The United Nations Secretariat is seeking qualified candidates from the FSM to take the annual competitive examination to be held in Palikir, Pohnpei. Applicants must apply by September 22, 2000.

FSM Department of Foreign Affairs foreign service officer Carl Apis said that if more candidates apply, the examination will be held in Palikir, Pohnpei, between February 5 and 9, 2001.

To qualify a candidate must be an FSM citizen and be no older than 32 years of on December 31, 2001.

The candidate must have at least a bachelors degree in one of the following fields or related areas: Administration, demography, economics, electronic data processing, finance, legal affairs, library, political affairs, social affairs, or statistics.

The candidate must also be fluent in English or French. Knowledge of Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish will be an advantage.
