Falcam to Address 8th Annual Pacific Conference in Maui

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM INFORMATION SERVICE): October 12, 1998 - Vice President Leo A. Falcam left the FSM last week to attend and address the 8th Annual Pacific Conference in Maui, Hawaii. The Conference which is scheduled for October 12 to the 15th will bring together private sector and governmental representatives to define opportunities and innovative strategies in the Pacific island region for domestic industry development and investment; foreign trade and investment.

Emphasis will be placed on the sustainable development and utilization of the islands' natural resources in four selected industries including tourism, fisheries, aquaculture, and agriculture.

Focus will be on promoting action that is culturally sensitive and environmentally sound; identifying possible obstacles to development; highliting the interdependence of the public, private and non-governmental sectors in furthering economic development and trade; indentifying specific development opportunities; and building partnerships and collaborative action between government and private sectors, domestic and foreign, for job creation and economic growth.

Vice President Falcam on Wednesday, October 14, will address the conference, according to the conference schedule. The delegation from the FSM head by the Vice President consists of representatives from the FSM and State Governments and the private sector.
