Condolences to Family and Friends of Nick Bossy
PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): September 13, 1997 - FSM President Jacob Nena relayed to Chuuk Governor Ansito Walter a message of condolence received from the Government and people of the Republic of Marshall Islands, for the family and friends of the late Honorable Nick Bossy.
Former FSM Senator Bossy died in Chuuk Hospital on Weno, September 24, 1997, according to information from FSM Congress' Director of Administration Suda Rayel.
A state funeral was held in honor of the late former Senator Bossy, October 1, 1997.
Bossy was born on September 12, 1936. He graduated from Xavier High School in Weno Chuuk. Following graduation he attended a Management Intern Program at the Headquarters' Department of Personnel for the Government of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands and upon completion in 1968, he was appointed Director of Personnel for the Mariana Island District. In 1970, he returned to Chuuk and served in the same capacity, a position he held until his election to Congress of Micronesia Senate in 1974 succeeding Andon Amaraich.
In the Sixth Congress of Micronesia, he served on the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Government Operations and Health, Education and Social Affairs. He was appointed to serve on the Joint Committee on Administrative Appointment, the Micronesian Delegation on the Law of the Sea Conference and the Joint Committee on Micronesian Claims.
Bossy was elected to the Fourth FSM Congress in 1985 defeating incumbent Sasao H. Gouland. He served as Vice Chairman on the Committee on Resources and Development, and as a member of the Committee on Health, Education and Social Affairs and Judiciary and Governmental Operations.
Bossy suffered a stroke during his second term in early 1990 from which he was never really recovered. As a result he was unable to complete his term. He did not regain his health until his death.
Bossy was married to the late Denida Refilong who died last August. Bossy is survived by sons Nickson, Simion, Nick Junior and Valerio, and daughters Jerry Rekis and Vivian Rekis, and brothers Fostino, Titus, Tito and Sitro, and sisters Nopuko Barker, Iutit Nethon and Mariana Nethon, and 26 grand children.
Bossy will be remembered for his friendly humors among friends and his frankness with his peers in debates on the floors of Congress of Micronesia and the FSM Congress.
FSM President Jacob Nena issued an order on September 26th ordering all FSM Flags on buildings, and grounds at home in FSM and at the FSM Embassies and Consulate Offices overseas and on board its vessels be flown at half-mast for three consecutive days beginning on September 26, 1997.
Vice President Leo A. Falcam represented the FSM National Government at the state funeral on October 1, 1997.
