World Diabetes Day Proclaimed for FSM

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Service): October 17, 2006 - The Proclamation reads as follows:


PRESIDENTIAL PROCLAMATION
WORLD DIABETES DAY
IN THE FEDERATED STATES OF MICRONESIA

WHEREAS, International Diabetes Federation has proclaimed November 14, 2006, the World Diabetes Day; and

WHEREAS, diabetes is a serious and lifelong disease that is alarmingly increasing in the Federated States of Micronesia; and

WHEREAS, Federated States of Micronesia is participating in the World Diabetes Day, and this year's theme is "DIABETES CARE FOR EVERYONE"; and

WHEREAS, physical activity, maintaining healthy weight, healthy food choices, healthy lifestyle, blood glucose monitoring, public health education, awareness and early prevention, detection and control are amongst the Diabetes care models; and

WHEREAS, Federated States of Micronesia believes that everyone can work closely together to promote and improve healthier islands and to safeguard against Diabetes and its complications;

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested on me by article X, Section 1, I hereby proclaim November 14, 2006 as the World Diabetes Day, and I urge all FSM citizens to participate in the World Diabetes Day activities.
