Unstable weather postpones Chuuk Special Election

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): October 21, 2004 - Severe weather conditions around the Federated States of Micronesia region has again postponed the Special Election for Chuuk State's At-large representative to the 13th Congress of the FSM.

President Joseph J. Urusemal, through the Office of the National Elections Commission, has announced the postponement of Chuuk's Special Elections until next Tuesday, October 26, 2004 due to weather conditions.

Typhoon Nock-Ten has been gathering strength in the northwestern regions of Chuuk State, creating unstable weather and rough seas in the area. The President had noted that the sever weather conditions would prevent "the proper conduct of elections, including the delivery of ballot boxes to the polling places."

The Special Election had originally been scheduled for October 14 and was postponed for similar weather conditions.
