President Mori Declared November 14th as Diabetes Day in the FSM

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Service): November 6, 2008 - On October 29, 2008, President Manny Mori signed a Presidential Proclamation declaring November 14th as Diabetes Day in the FSM. The proclamation in its entirety reads:

WHEREAS, the United Nation and International Diabetes Federation has proclaimed November 14 World Diabetes Day; and

WHEREAS, diabetes is a serious lifelong and costly disease that is alarmingly increasing in the FSM; and

WHEREAS, Federated States of Micronesia is participating in the World Diabetes Day, and this year's theme is "DIABETES IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS"; and

WHEREAS, promote physical activity, proper diet, maintain as ideal weight, healthy food choices, healthy lifestyle, blood sugar monitoring, public health education, awareness campaigns, self care management and early detection of diabetes are amongst the diabetes prevention and control care model; and

WHEREAS, Federated States of Micronesia believes that children and young adults can be given the opportunity at such age to choose to live a healthier lifestyle in order to prevent and control diabetes;

NOW THEREFORE, by virtue of the power vested in me as President of Federated States of Micronesia, I hereby declare and proclaim November 14, 2008 World Diabetes Day, to be observed throughout the FSM, and I urge all citizens, especially the young people to participate in the World Diabetes Day activities.
