FSM Congress News, May 21, 2004PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Congress): May 21, 2004 - Today Speaker Peter M. Christian encouraged the standing committees to continue to focus attentions on the proposed fiscal year 2005 budget, the nominations to the various posts that needed congressional confirmations and urgent matters of the nation. The speaker called for a meeting of all Members after the morning session to further discuss major issues pending before the Congress including the proposed budget, nominations, the resolution to ratify the Amended Compact and how long should they meet in session during the ongoing Third Regular Session. Former Speaker Jack Fritz encouraged the JCN and the FSM Embassy in Washington D.C. and those who are involved in dialogue with United State DOI or the JEMCO to restrengthen efforts in accessing funds under the Compact. The FSM Ambassadors to the United Nations, HE Masauo Nakayama and to Japan, HE Kasio Mida and the Acting Council General to Hawaii, Mr. Daniel Rescue were in the gallery observing the morning session. On the order of the day, Congress deferred action on all the ten standing committee reports that were up for consideration. The Committee on Ways and Means will hold public hearing today at 1:00 p.m. The hearing concerns the proposed 2005 budget and will take place at the Central Facilities Building. Congress went to recess at 10:20 a.m. and will re-convene on Monday, May 24, at 10:00 in the morning. Monday's session will mark the 14th Day of the ongoing Third Regular Session. |
