Congress confirms R&D Secretary and National Elections Director, among othersPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Congress): July 31, 2010 - The Fourth Special Session of the Sixteenth Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia confirmed, among others, the nominations for the Secretary of the Department of Resources and Development and the National Elections Director. Congress had extended the three-day session called by the President for four more days through Congressional Resolution (C.R.) 16-106 and adopted all the nomination resolutions placed on the day's order of business. On Saturday, Day Four, Congress adopted C.R. 16-107, confirming Marion Henry of Chuuk as the Secretary for the FSM Department of Resources and Development; and C.R. 16-108, confirming the nomination of Albert T. Welly of Kosrae as the National Elections Director. Other nomination resolutions confirmed during Saturdays session included: C.R. 16-102, Redley Killion as Chuuk State's representative to the FSM Petroleum Corporation Board of Directors; C.R. 16-103, Ricky Carl as Pohnpei State's representative on the National Oceanic Resources Management Authority Board of Directors; and C.R. 16-104, Alanso Cholymay as Chuuk State's representative on the National Oceanic Resources Management Authority Board of Directors. Along with the nominations, Congress also adopted C.R. 16-105, for the Goods and Services agreement between the FSM Government and the Overseas Fisheries Cooperation Foundation of Japan. According to the pre-established rotation of goods and services, the State of Kosrae would be the recipient of the approved agreement. Having given their blessings on all the resolutions placed on the day's calendar, Congress recessed to again reconvene on August 2, 2010 for Day Six of the Fourth Special Session of the 16th FSM Congress. |
