Congress confirms Yatilman to head national Office of Environment and Emergency ManagementPALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Congress): September 21, 2007 - Andrew R. Yatilman has been confirmed today, by the 15th Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia, to the position of Director for the National Office of Environment and Emergency Management. Yatilman will head the newly created national office proposed to centralize the coordination and consolidation of all national services related to Environment and Emergency. His nomination was among the nominations transmitted on June 29 by the Executive Branch. Yatilman's confirmation came on the 10th day of the Second Regular Session of the 15th Congress in a vote of 10 to 4. Prior to his nomination, Yatilman served the previous Administration as the Secretary of the Department of Transportation, Communications and Infrastructure. His background is broad in the areas of environment, health and education. Yatilman was a former Lieutenant Governor for the State of Yap. In addition to Yatilman, the other nominees are also undergoing the confirmation process during this Second Regular Session of the 15th FSM Congress. Congress has prioritized for consideration during this Second Regular Session, the National Budget for Fiscal Year 2008 and the Executive's nominations. Public Hearings are currently ongoing to address issues and concerns in both areas. |
