FSM Congress News, October 17, 2003PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Congress): October 17, 2003 - For the first time in the history of the FSM Congress, Members, led by former Speaker Jack Fritz, sang the birthday song commemorating the 56th years after Speaker Peter M. Christian's arrival to this world. Representatives of all the four congressional delegations, during the 4th day of the 2nd Regular Session of the 13th Congress October 16, delivered words of congratulations and best wishes to the speaker. In return, Speaker Peter Christian invited all Members and staff of Congress to a party at the Cliff Rainbow Hotel tonight. Congress discussed and deferred action on three bills, which were up for action on Second and Final Reading. The three bills pertain to "immigration moratorium," to limit the term of ambassadors to the term of the president and to change the use of certain funds appropriated for the state of Chuuk. Speaker Christian adjourned the session today until Monday to allow the committees to concentrate working on their assigned tasks and reminded the chairmen of the standing committees to review the old laws to see which ones needed to be changed or improved. |
