FSM Congress News, October 21, 2003PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Congress): October 21, 2003 - Congress unanimously adopted a resolution congratulating the nation and the people of the People's Republic of China on the successful completion of their historic first manned space flight. The resolution stated in part that "China's successful mission marks an historic milestone in the peaceful exploration of space for the benefit of all mankind." The spacecraft blasted into space on October 15, 2003 with "taikonaut" Yang Liwei who single handedly manned the craft and orbited the earth 14 times in 21 hours. The mission ranked China in number 3 after Russia and United States. The other resolution that was adopted by Congress today, October 21, authorizes the president to resubmit the nominations of Mr. Mathew Y. Chigityal, Mr. Alexander R. Narruhn and Dr. Alexander Panuelo to serve as members of the FSM Banking Board. Congress deferred action on three bills that were up for 2nd and Final Reading. This is the second time Congress deferred its action on these same bills. The bills pertain to the law on immigration moratorium, limiting the term of ambassadors to the term of the president and to change the use of certain funds for the State of Chuuk. The later bill was deferred to indefinite time. Congress recessed at 12:00 noon and will reconvene tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. |
