Congress Session Openend in YapColonia, YAP (FSM Congress): December 14, 2004 - The Thirteenth Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia opened its Sixth Special Session yesterday, December 13, 2004, in the State of Yap with traditional leaders, state and national officials, staff of the FSM Executive Branch and Legislative Branch, and local onlookers in attendance. Chairman of the Yap Congressional Delegation, Senator Isaac V. Figir, formally welcomed President Joseph Urusemal, his Cabinet, and the Thirteenth Congress to the state of Yap. "It is truly a historic day. It marks the first time a session of the National Congress has been held in our state." Chairman Figir expressed the state's appreciation and extended warm greeting to the Thirteenth Congress and the President, as well as the President's accompanying delegation. In the same spirit of the "historic" occasion, Governor of Yap, Robert Ruecho, and President Urusemal also stood up to make remarks on the event, especially the great effort it took for the state to host the session in light of recent distraction from the storms. Speaker Peter Christian acknowledged those remarks and expressed his appreciation to the officials, the government and people of the State of Yap. After going through the necessary procedures and announcements, the Opening Day session went into recess until Wednesday, December 15, 2004. |
