Ambassador Tomas Javier Calvillo Unna presents credentials to President Mori

Palikir, Pohnpei (Department of Foreign Affairs): January 24, 2012 - On Friday afternoon of January 20, 2012 President Emanuel Mori received the Letter of Credence of Tomas Javier Calvillo Unna, Ambassador of the United Mexican States to the Federated States of Micronesia, in an official ceremony at the President's temporary office annex to the official residence in Palikir, Pohnpei. In attendance of the ceremony were Vice-President Alik, Cabinet Members and staff from the President Office and the Department of Foreign Affairs.

During the ceremony, President Mori welcomed the Ambassador to the FSM and thanked him for visiting the FSM and also congratulated him for his historic appointment as the first Ambassador of Mexico to the Federated States of Micronesia since establishment of Diplomatic relations in 2001. The President indicated his desire to strengthen engagement and cooperation between the FSM and Mexico at all levels. He also expressed appreciation and applauded Mexico's leadership for addressing global warming and hosting the 2010 Conference of Parties on the Convention on Climate Change in Cancun.

The Ambassador thanked President Mori and expressed his readiness to promote bilateral, political, economic, educational, and cultural ties between the FSM and Mexico. He also read a poem to the President which he wrote for the occasion.

Ambassador Unna departed Pohnpei on January 21 for Chuuk, where he would pay a courtesy call on the Governor of the Chuuk State before returning to Manila.
