Nena Congratulates Imata KabuaPALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): January 24, 1997 - Acting President Jacob Nena on January 22 congratulated the new President of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, His Excellency Imata Kabua, replacing the late President Amata Kabua who passed away December 20, 1996 at the Queen's Hospital in Hawaii. He stated, "On this momentous occasion, I send my sincere congratulations and best wishes and that of the people of the Federated States of Micronesia to you and the people of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, as you assume the Presidency of the Republic of the Marshall Islands." "As you assume the highest office in the Marshall Islands, I would like to assure you of my strong and continuing interest in maintaining the warm and friendly relations that we have as Micronesians and as a people with common heritage and shared values.
