FSM Social Security Moved to New Location

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): February 2000 - The FSM and Pohnpei State Social Security offices have moved to different locations to cut down costs.

The FSM Social Security office has moved to the newly built top floor of the Namiki building. The Pohnpei State Social Security Office has moved to the first floor of the building between A- I Mart and Changes, and across from the Post Office.

The new places have more space. "We will save about half of what we were spending on rental," said Marilyn Johnson, FSM Social Security Administrator.

She added that they are trying to save money to also help their office in Chuuk move to a new location. The office was located too far from the center of Weno which makes it difficult for those needing the services to visit the office often.

The office in Yap is leasing from the government and their lease was up last December. They are negotiating with the government. Kosrae office will remain where it is located. It has been there for long and the location is good, said Johnson.

"We are looking for a permanent place to locate the Social Security offices here in Pohnpei" said Johnson adding that they win have to continue renting -until a place is found.
