Unity and commitment pepper themes at Chuuk Youth RallyWENO, Chuuk (FSM Information Service): February 2000 - Calls for unity and pulling together for a better Chuuk peppered the two-day Youth 2000 Rally held in Weno, Chuuk, February 18 and 19. Speaker after speaker, including the FSM Vice President Redley Killion, FSM Speaker of the Legislature Jack Fritz and Chuuk Governor Anisito Walter, told the more than 300 youth attending the rally that to build Chuuk as a place for tourism and industry the people had to keep the island beautiful and develop new attitudes focusing on a profound commitment to teamwork. The speakers spoke often during the rally and during breaks between group singing competitions. Youth from many of the lagoon islands attended the rally at Andersen Field and a dinner held Friday evening at the Chuuk Star Hotel. Speaking before the youth during the two days were the Vice President; Speaker; Chuuk Governor; Freddie Nifon, Weno Mayor; Presenta Sablan Shirai special assistant on Youth Affairs Chuuk State; Bonsiano Nethon, speaker of the Chuuk State House of Representatives, Detor Santos, president of the Chuuk State Senate; Henzel Akapito, chair of Mayors Conference of Chuuk State; Wanis Simia, associate justice Chuuk State Supreme Court; and Gideon Kikku, deputy director of the Department of Chuuk State Public Affairs. |
