FSM Chief Executives meet in PalikirPalikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): February 14, 2006 - The Chief Executives of the Federated States of Micronesia are in Palikir this week for a two-day Conference which started on Monday - February 13, 2006. In light of the upcoming special session of the Fourteenth Congress of the FSM, President Joseph J. Urusemal had called for the Governors of the four States to convene "for the purpose of discussing certain important and urgent issues which are pending with the Governments." The Chief Executive Conference (CEC) will also allow adequate time for the governments to submit items and issues requiring the attention and action of the FSM Congress. Topping the agenda of discussion are updates on the matters of the amended Compact of Free Association between the FSM and the United States and the various issues of relations to the amended Compact. Primary among the amended Compact issues is the Infrastructure Development Plan and its implementations along with the amended Compact reporting requirements. The CEC is also being provided updates on the various projects financed by the Asian Development Bank, the FSM's Tax Reform efforts, the ongoing fuel negotiations with Mobil and the current status of the Submarine Fiber Optic Cable. Also on the agenda is the status of the Fourth FSM Games, which is to be hosted by the State of Pohnpei during the summer. A communiqué is anticipated and the end of the conference to summarize the outcome and decisions adopted by the CEC.
