Konan City makes Goodwill Visit to Pohnpei, FSMFebruary 6, 2006 - (FSM Department of Foreign Affairs): February 21, 2006 - Mayor Motoshi Hori and Council Members Mr. Kawai Masatake, Mr. Sawada Kazunobu, Mr. Ozeki Kenji, Mr. Kaba Hyoe and 18 residents of Konan City paid a courtesy visit on President Joseph J. Urusemal and Vice President Redley Killion in the President's Conference room. The Mayor and his delegation are making a repeat visit to continue the friendly relations that was established a year ago leading up to the Aichi Expo 2005. Konan City was designated as the partner city for the FSM to assist in preparation, coordination and representation of FSM in Aichi, Japan. This has led to the continued relations aimed to go beyond partnership for the Aichi Expo. During the courtesy call with President Urusemal and Vice President Killion, the Mayor presented a certificate for the donation of a 52-seater bus. At the visit, both sides affirmed their desire to further strengthen their friendship in promoting people-to-people contact for mutual benefits. The group visited the ruins of Nan Madol and the College of Micronesia-FSM and ended their visit with a courtesy call on Pohnpei State Governor, Johnny P. David. Before their departure, the Mayor and several members of his delegation planted two coconut trees outside Governor David's Office. Two other coconuts had been planted during an earlier visit a year ago by the Mayor and his delegation. The group arrived in Pohnpei on Sunday and departed on Tuesday for Japan, after a short but successful visit. |
