President Urusemal submits issues for action during Kosrae Congress sessionPalikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): February 24, 2006 - President Joseph J. Urusemal has submitted issues for action by the Fourteenth Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia during its Second Special Session in Kosrae, from February 27 - March 3. In President Urusemal's letter to Speaker Peter M. Christian, he requested Congress's action on four issues submitted for consideration during the Special Session. His letter highlighted the following issues: Fiscal Year 2006 supplemental budget, the Chinese Grant of $2.5 million, the National Government representative on the FSM Telecom Board, and the ongoing issues regarding over-expenditure of public project funds. Contained within the FY-06 Supplemental Budget request is the appropriation for the upcoming 2007 National Elections, the establishment of the FSM Embassy in Beijing and purchase of parts for Caroline Island Air. With both the Chinese Grant and the Telecom nomination seek favorable resolutions, the President has asked Congress for a moratorium on the introduction of any public projects Bills during the Special Session until the problems of over expended public funds are resolved. President Urusemal and members of his Cabinet and the various agencies and offices will join the 14th Congress during its Kosrae Session. |
