President Mori conveys sympathy on the passing for former First Lady Iris FalcamPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): February 24, 2010 - Former First Lady Iris Green Falcam passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010. Mrs. Falcam was the First Lady during President Leo Falcam's term from 1999-2003 and served as the Librarian for the Pacific Collection of the College of Micronesia-FSM from 1979 until her passing. She had also served as the Librarian of the Congress of Micronesia and as staff for the Public Information Office at the Trust Territory Headquarters in Saipan. Former First Lady Falcam attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Kapiolani Technical School. President Mori wrote to former President Falcam and expressed his sympathy on the passing of Mrs. Falcam. The President wrote that the late Mrs. Falcam will be remembered not only as a First Lady of our Nation but as a gracious and caring mother of our Nation. "She has been a devoted and hard-working public servant who has dedicated her professional career at the College of Micronesia-FSM and is well known for her charitable work in the FSM such as working for the Micronesia Red Cross and the Committee on the Rights of Children." Mrs. Falcam also served as the Treasurer of the Pohnpei Lions Club, is a former member of the Board of Pohnpei Catholic School, and a member of the Pwihn en Mercedes, a Catholic women's organization. In his letter, the President said that Mrs. Falcam's compassion to improve the welfare of the FSM people demonstrated her great spirit of understanding and dedication to help others. Mrs. Falcam is originally from Hawaii but spent more than 40 years in the Micronesia. |
