FSM welcomes an assistance of $50,000 from the People's Republic of ChinaPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): March 2, 2012 - A signing ceremony and handover of certificate took place on February 23 at the FSM Department of Foreign Affairs between Secretary Lorin Robert and Charge d' affaires ad interim, Mr. Wen Zhencai of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, concerning an emergency assistance of $50,000 to assist in dealing with the dengue fever outbreak in the State of Yap. The Assistance was made in response to an earlier request lodged by the Department of Health and Social Affairs as part of concerted efforts to assist the State of Yap with the dengue fever situations. In a short remark, Secretary Robert thanked the Chinese Government for the considerate assistance which will help contain and eliminate the mosquito-borne illness in Yap State. Mr. Wen stated that the Chinese Government will continue to assist the FSM in its emergency needs. According to the February 28 situation report from the Yap State Department of Health Services, the fever peaked during the month of December and seems to have drastically been controlled in terms of the occurrence of new cases in recent days. In an email message of March 3 from Mr. Marcus Samo, Assistant Secretary of the Health Division of the FSM Department of Health and Social Affairs, there has not been any reported case of dengue fever from the other FSM States.
