FSM Represented in International Women's Day Function at the Great Hall of the People, BeijingBeijing, China (FSM Embassy, Beijing/FSM Information Service): March 11, 2011 - On the occasion of the International Woman's Day, Madame Mihpel Olter Susaia represented the Federated States of Micronesia at the Great Hall of the People, Tuesday morning in Beijing for a program hosted by the All-China Women's Federation. Madame Susaia was amongst 1,800 women which included national, provincial and municipal leaders, diplomats, United Nations representatives, foreign experts, and other overseas guests including the First Lady of Sri Lanka, Madame Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who took part in the celebration of this 100th March 8, International Woman's Day. The Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and President of the All-China Women's Federation, Madame Chen Zhili, welcomed all the guest to the Great Hall and delivered the keynote address. In her statement, Madame Chen expressed her appreciation towards the international woman movement which has brought about consensus in the international community on the common objectives of promoting gender equality, women's empowerment and women's development. Madame Chen also highlighted the Chinese Government and women organizations' efforts in promoting women development and thanked women all over the world for their support towards China's women development. Madame Chen's speech at the Great Hall of the People echoed the hopes of achieving common understanding, deepened cooperation and improved friendship with global women's organizations and women in all communities towards realizing gender equality, women's advancement, as well as world peace and progress. While celebrations were held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, women of the Federated States of Micronesia also celebrated the occasion in Palikir at the FSM-China Friendship Sport Complex. |
