Falcam is in Honolulu with other Heads of Government from the Pacific region to attend the 27th meeting of the Standing Committee of the Pacific Islands Conference of Leaders (PICL). The two-day meeting began on March 13 at the East-West Center in Honolulu where the Leadership's main theme, "Challenges and Opportunities for Development and Governance in the Globalization Era," maintains a continuity of last year's issues regarding Globalization in the region. At the PICL's 6th Meeting last year, President Falcam was elected Chairman of its Standing Committee with the Prime Minister of Tonga, Prince Ulukalala Lavaka 'Ata elected as Vice Chairman. The Standing Committee acts as the Executive Committee of the PICL by establishing detailed priorities from the Conference sessions, which are held every three years. The Standing Committee conducts the Conference's business with annual meetings to review the activities and products of the Pacific Islands Development Program (PIDP) which serves as the Secretariat of the PICL. The JCC had invited the PICL earlier this week to a joint meeting of the United States-Pacific Islands Nations Joint Commercial Commission where their objective is for the Pacific to promote mutually beneficial commercial and economic relations with the United States.
