Typhoon Fern Individual Assistance

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): April 16, 1997 - Acting President Jacob Nena in a letter to the Governor of the State of Yap, Vincent Figir, dated April 2, 1997, informed Figir that he has received word from Lacy E. Suiter, Executive Associate Director of FEMA, in a letter dated March 19, 1997, on FEMA's findings regarding the request for Individual Assistance in Yap.

In that letter, Suiter informed the Acting President that the damages done to private housing was not much and the assistance that the victims have received for the FSM and Yap State were sufficient to help the victimized citizens.

Nena concluded by advising Governor Figir that he may appeal the decision within 30 days, by providing strong justifications to support his appeal which shall demonstrate the continued sufferings of the people.
