Japan Donates Hospital Equipment to FSMPALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): May 12, 1997 - The First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan based in Pohnpei, Susumu Nakazawa, presented on May 7, 1997, equipment for Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) to Secretary Eliuel K. Pretrick who received the equipment on behalf of the Government of the FSM. The equipment worth approximately ¥9,640,000 was donated in response to a request of September 6, 1996, by the FSM Government to the Japan Technical Cooperation. The equipment donated included refrigerators/freezer and spare parts, gas refrigerator, vaccine cold box, thermometers, four-wheel pick-up truck and a four-wheel station wagon. Attending the presentation ceremony were officials from the departments of External Affairs, Health Services, and Finance. The distribution of the equipment to each of the four states is as follows: Yap State Hospital is getting two refrigerators with transformers; 10 vaccine carriers with ice-packs; two vaccine cold boxes with ice-packs; and 20 thermometers. Chuuk State Hospital is getting two refrigerators/freezers; three gas refrigerators; 50 vaccine carriers with ice-packs; six vaccine cold boxes with ice-packs; 65 thermometers and one four-wheel pick-up truck. Kosrae State Hospital is getting one refrigerator/freezer spare parts with transformer; three vaccine carriers with ice-packs; 12 thermometers; and one four wheel station wagon. Pohnpei State Hospital is getting three refrigerator/freezer/spare parts with transformer; 15 vaccine carriers with ice-packs; four vaccine cold boxes with ice-packs; and 25 thermometers. The FSM Health Services is getting one cold storage freezer. |
