Christian heads Fourteenth FSM CongressPalikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): May 13, 2005 - The Fourteenth Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia convened its First Regular Session on May 11 2004, re-seating Senator Peter M. Christian as its Speaker. Senator Claude H. Phillip has also resumes his seat as Vice Speaker while the newly elected Senator Simiram Sipenuk (Chuuk) has taken on the role of Floor Leader for the 14th FSM Congress. Following the selection of the presiding officers, Speaker Christian then appointed the following leadership to the various Congressional Committees: Chairman Dohsis Halbert - Committee on Judiciary and Governmental Operations (J&GO); Chairman Isaac V. Figir - Committee on Ways and Means; Chairman Emanuel (Manny) Mori - Committee on Resource and Development (R&D); Chairman Moses A. Nelson - Committee on Transportation Communications and Infrastructure (TC&I); Chairman Alik Alik - Committee on External Affairs; and Chairman Resio S. Moses - Committee on Health, Education and Social Affairs (HESA). The next day Today, the 14th FSM Congress went into recess to allow the committees time to re-organize themselves and review urgent matters on their calendars, among which include, the national Strategic Development Plan (SDP). Congress will reconvene 10am Tuesday - May 17. |
