State of the Nation Address DelayedPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): May 13, 2009 - This notice is going out to inform the public that President Mori's State of the Nation Address has been delayed. In a memo dated May 12, 2009, but delivered at 8:00 am on May 13, 2009, Speaker Isaac Figir regretfully informed the President that "Congress is not ready to receive you tomorrow until further consultation between our two Offices upon which a more appropriate time may be decided." He stated that, "before the adoption of the said Resolution (16-02) was not to put a date and time on the Resolution, rather to have consultation between your Office and mine to decide the appropriate time." President Mori had previously communicated to Congress at their dinner on Friday, May 8, 2009 and in a memo to Speaker Figir on May 12, 2009 that he was "prepared to deliver the 2nd State of the Nation Message for my Administration to the Congress and to the nation on May 13, 2009 at 10:00 am." Congress is visiting the President this morning with its Committee to Wait on the President at 9:00 am. A date and time for the address is on the President's list of things to consult about. If anyone in the public was interested in attending this address, please wait for further communication. |
