Session considers executive nominations and budget

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): May 17, 2004 - Third Regular Session of the Thirteenth Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia is underway to consider the national budget, administrative nominations and other issues of national concern.

Regular Congress sessions are normally for 30 days, but according to Congress information, the Third Regular Session may be shortened. Within this limited time, Congress's schedule is packed with among other matters, the fiscal year 2005 Budget and Executive Branch nominations for :

  • Lawrence Vetter of Virginia, USA - for the post of Secretary of the Department of Justice;

  • James Naich for the Deputy Chief of Mission for the FSM Embassy in Washington; and

  • various national boards and commissions.


Also for consideration are the following Presidential Communications:

  1. PC .No. 13- 41l - the Agreement on Economic Technical Cooperation Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia.

  2. PC No.13-142 - the proposed bill to amend Chapter 1 of Title 55 of the FSM Code to modify the budgeting process of the National Government to bring it into conformance with the provision and budgetary timeline of the amended Compact and proposed amendment to Chapter 3 of Title 55 of the Code.

  3. PC No. 13-143 - "A Report on the Impact of the Moratorium Law on the FSM's Economy - CY 2003" for perusal and information.
