EPIC to tackle issues of amended CompacPalikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): May 21, 2004 - President Joseph J. Urusemal has called the Economic Policy Implementation Council (EPIC) to convene in Palikir for a two-day meeting beginning Monday - May 24 2004. The President urged the Council, which comprises of the Chief Executives of the five governments of the Federated States of Micronesia, to convene for "pressing issues needing our review and discussion." General agenda items of discussions, as noted in the President's letter to the Chief Executives, include but not limited to, "the recently concluded 3rd Economic Summit and the Leaderships' decision on the pursuit of the 'high growth economic scenario', the amended Compact and other issues of internal importance to our young nation." The Council membership include, from the National Government: the President and the Speaker of the FSM Congress and from the State Governments, the Governors and the Presiding Officers of each Legislature. The Council was created in June 2004 to focus on key economic policies to forward FSM's economic agenda. The Department of Economic serves as the Secretariat for the Council. |
