President Mori has called for a Special Session of CongressPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): June 16, 2011 - President Manny Mori, in a letter to Speaker Isaac V. Figir, dated June 10, 2011, has called for a twelve-day special session of Congress, to commence on July 25, 2011. This will be the First Special Session of the 17thFSM Congress, which will take place after results of the special elections in Kosrae and Chuuk States have been certified by the FSM Election Commissioner, to fill vacant at-large seats vacated by President Manny Mori and Vice President Alik L. Alik when they were re-elected by Congress on May 11, 2011, to a second term. The President indicated in his call for a special session that four (4) urgent issues should be considered by Congress including, nominations for Cabinet Members and Ambassadors, proposed fiscal year 2012 budget, fiscal year 2011 supplemental budget, and the budget for the Program Management Unit, Department of Transportation, Communication, and Infrastructure. The Congress had started its review of the proposed fiscal year 2012 budget for most departments and offices of the FSM National Government at its First Regular Session last May. The special session will precede the 16thMicronesian Chief Executives' Summit which is scheduled from July 27-28, and which will be co-hosted by the National Government and Pohnpei State, and the Micronesian Presidential Summit which will be held the afternoon of July 28. The Congress will recess for the Inauguration Ceremony which is scheduled on July 29 at the China-FSM Friendship Indoor Auditorium in Palikir. |
