President Mori signs first measures from 15th CongressPalikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Service): June 20, 2007 - President Emanuel Mori has signed into law three measures adopted by the new Fifteenth Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia. Public Law no. 15-1, is an amendment to the Fiscal-Year 2007 Budget to appropriate $321,913 in supplemental funding for certain activities for the national government, among which include, funding for the July 3rd Special Elections; funding for the Joint Inaugurations; and moving and settling expenses for the new Administration. Public Law no. 15-2, is an amendment to reduce the number of days previously allowed for the special polling places in Guam and Honolulu to be open. Under the new law, the special polling places in Guam and Honolulu will open on July 3rd - Election Day only, but with increase polling hours from 7:00 am to 9:30 pm. Public Law no. 15-3, is an amendment to PL. 14-107 for certain changes to the use and allottee for certain funds previously appropriated for the State of Yap to allow certain land acquisition. In addition to the new laws, the Opening Session of the 15th FSM Congress also adopted 9 Resolutions, and they include: Congressional Resolution no. 15-01, for the appointment of T. Lam Dang as the Legislative Counsel to the 15th FSM Congress; CR. 15-02, for approval of the Pacific Regional Policing Initiative (PRPI) grant to implement FSM Law Enforcement Training Academy for state and national police officers; CR. 15-03, to set the ceiling of estimated available funds for FY-2007 appropriations; CR. 15-04, for approval of a technical assistance grant from the US Department of Interior for an Auditor Training Program sponsored by US DOI and the Office of the Inspector General; CR. 15-05, for approval of a grant from the European Union Conservation and Environmental Protection Programme (CEPP) for capacity building and strengthening the delivery of services by Non State Actors (NSA) in the area of conservation and environmental protection for the FSM; CR. 15-06, to confirm Lyndon L. Cornelius as Kosrae State's representative on the Board of Regents of College of Micronesia; CR. 15-07, to express condolences from the 15th Congress for the late John A. Mangefel; CR. 15-08, to re-set the ceiling of estimated available funds for FY-2007 appropriations; and CR. 15-09, to authorize the President to submit the Recommended National Government Compact Budget Request to the United States. |
