Germany avails small-scale livelihood projects to FSM

Palikir, POHNPEI(Department of Foreign Affairs/FSM Information Service): June 21, 2005 - Karin Guerrero of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Philippines recently visited the Federated States of Micronesia on proposed projects for the Northern Pacific Region.

Guerrero, Development Counsellor/Advisor for the German Embassy, held various meetings in Pohnpei from June 10 - 16 to elaborated on the Embassy's small-scale livelihood projects scheme.

The scheme is geared towards income generating projects at the grassroots level, with the fundamental goal of eventual alleviation of poverty.

While the scheme is envisioned as mainly a partnership between NGO's, civil society organizations (CSO) and community-based organizations (CBO), it is also available to qualifying local municipal governments.

The scope of the project is not limited to one sector, provided that the focus is on the alleviation of poverty. As a small-scale project, the eligible amount will be based on the merits of each project.

According to Guerrero, the German Embassy avails the small-scale livelihood projects scheme as part of the ongoing efforts to further strengthen cooperation between the Federal Republic of Germany and the FSM. The two nations established diplomatic ties in 1992.
