President Mori Hosts Farewell Reception for Outgoing Ambassador from ChinaPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): June 22, 2009 - A farewell dinner reception was held on June 17, 2009 for Her Excellency Liu Fei, as she prepares to return home after nearly three years as Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Federated States of Micronesia. In brief remarks, President Mori expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for her country's development assistance, including scholarships and trainings, official tours, and people to people exchanges that promote mutual and beneficial relationships between the FSM and the People's Republic of China. He also made note of the "One-China Policy". The President then proposed a toast for good health for her, the President of China, and the people of China. The Ambassador, in her responding remarks, expressed her appreciations and thanked President Mori for strong support and kind assistance extended to her during her tenure in the FSM, adding, "China appreciates that President Mori attaches great importance to the China-FSM relationship and has made important contributions to the development of this relationship. The FSM is an important friend to China. China attaches great importance to the China-FSM relationship and it is in the interests of both peoples to comprehensively strengthen China-FSM friendly cooperation." The Ambassador also thanked the national leadership, traditional leaders, governors, state legislature senators and her diplomatic colleagues for the cooperation and courtesy she has received which made her tenure in office a success. The Ambassador reciprocated by proposing a toast for the good health of the President, the Vice President and the people of the FSM. The invited guests included Vice President and Mrs. Alik, Chief Justice Andon Amaraich and Mrs. Amaraich, Senator Dion G. Neth, the U.S. Charge d'Affairs, cabinet members, members of the diplomatic corps, and the Chinese people who are residing here in Pohnpei. |
