Matson Navigation Company to increase services to FSMPalikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Service): June 28, 2005 - Vice President Redley Killion has been informed by Matson Navigation Company that it will improve its transportation services from the US mainland to Federated States of Micronesia. Matson is the principal carrier of containerized cargo between the US Pacific Coast and the FSM. To that effect, it has announced the following: By the middle of July 2005, Matson Navigation, with its partners FSM Lines/Kyowa Shipping, will introduce a more frequent service to Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae. Vessels will call Chuuk and Pohnpei every 21 days, and Kosrae every 42 days, commencing with the Kyowa Salvia voyage 28. Matson/FSM Lines/Kyowa are very pleased to be providing this improved service to our island neighbors and confident of the benefits it will bring to our customers and their island communities. At Matson we are continually striving to meet the needs of our customers and exceed their expectations. We introduced the target vessel concept that focuses on the Matson vessel connecting to the feeder vessel, which in turn reduces overall transit time. Many customers stated the need for more frequent port calls into their respective islands, and we are excited to now offer this service.
