Vice President Alik Meets FSM Citizens in BeijingBeijing, China (FSM Embassy, Beijing): July 9, 2009 - Vice President Alik and his delegation visited the FSM Embassy in Beijing at the Jianguomenwai Diplomatic Compound on the evening of 9 July 2009 after his meeting with the Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping. The purpose of the visit to the Embassy was to inspect the Embassy and to meet with FSM citizens in China. Vice President Alik was introduced to the audience by Charge d' Affaires a.i. (Minister) Carl D. Apis. The Charge, in his introduction, made note of Vice President Alik's long track of public service at the national government which began at the Department of Foreign Affairs. At the Department, Vice President Alik held various posts including the Ambassadorship in Fiji and in Japan. While he was in Japan, the Vice President was cross accredited to China until his calling to the FSM Congress in 2003. Vice President Alik assumed his present position in 2007. During the occasion, Vice President Alik briefed the FSM students on current issues back home in the FSM and also briefed them of his visit here in China. The Vice President requested that each student study hard in their respective fields of studies and encouraged them to be good Ambassadors in China. The Vice President was confident that the students will play a vital role in the enhancement of the FSM-China Model relationship and will contribute to the economic and social development of the FSM in the near future.
