USS Fredrick makes port calls in FSMPALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): July 13, 2001 - The United States Embassy in Pohnpei has announced that a United States Navy ship, the USS Fredrick, will be in touring the Federated States of Micronesia during the week of July 9 - 16. Based in Honolulu, the USS Fredrick set out on a goodwill mission that doubled as a recreational tour which took it through Micronesian islands. Throughout the islands, the USS Fredrick distributed books and articles to the libraries as part of its "hand-clasp" projects. Earlier in May, a similar mission of Humanitarian Assistance was carried out by the Okinawa based Marines during which they assisted the local communities with several projects. The USS Fredrick started on its tour in the Republic of Palau and continued on to the State of Chuuk in the FSM, and is expected to moor at the Pohnpei port tomorrow, July 13. The Embassy has announced that the USS Fredrick will be hosting an "open-house" tour on July 14, 15. The tour, according to the Embassy, is free of charge and open to the general public. The USS Fredrick will depart for its home port on Monday July 16. |
