FSM Mourns the passing of Former Vice President IsmaelPALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): August 1, 2008 - The Government of the Federated States of Micronesia, with great sadness, announces that former Vice-President Hiroshi Ismael passed away yesterday morning at his house in Kosrae. The late Vice-President Ismael was the Third Vice- President of the FSM. Ismael had spent a life-time of public service in various prominent positions and roles during the United Nation's Administration of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. Ismael's leadership, commitment and guidance during the nation's early efforts towards self-government earned him the respect of his colleagues and the people of the Federated States of Micronesia. He is one of the nation's highly revered and deeply respected leaders. In May 1987, Ismael became the nation's third Vice-President. After his term as the Vice President, Ismael went back to his home state and become the Director of Health Services in Kosrae. Vice President Ismael is from Kosrae and is survived by his wife, the former Mitchigo Skilling, their children and grandchildren. He was 72.
