Continental Micronesia Proposes Newly Packaged Flight Schedule for YapPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): August 17, 2010 - Pursuant to ongoing discussions and negotiations between the FSM Government Working Group and Continental Micronesia; Francis Itimai, Secretary of the Department of Transportation, Communication & Infrastructure, confirmed on August 11, a newly packaged flight schedule which will be offered by Continental for arrivals and departures, to and from Yap. Effective October 1, 2010, Continental will be implementing a Wednesday morning service from Yap to Manila, with a one hour transit in Guam; and a return service from Manila to Yap, again via a short transit through Guam, Saturdays mid-afternoon. Continental informed Itimai that this new schedule will allow for smooth connections from Guam to Japan, or from Guam to other FSM states. As a result of this Wednesday morning service, Yap will benefit from a new stand-alone non-stop flight on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, in and out of Guam, with increased space for seating and cargo as the flight will no longer include Palau in its route. "I believe this will be a big step forward for Yap," said Charles Duncan, President and Chief Operating Officer of Continental Micronesia. The service route Guam-Yap-Palau and back, has been decreased from three times weekly to once per week with the maintained schedule of the incoming Guam to Yap flight on Saturdays, and the outgoing Yap to Guam flights on Sundays. This route also allows for convenient connections from Palau to Japan. The connectivity between Yap and the rest of the FSM will be maintained as is. |
