Three Major Grant Awards for FSM Finalized in SeptemberPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): September 23, 2010 - Three major grant awards for the FSM Government have been finalized during the month of September: $11,791,333 for the 2010 Supplemental Education Grant (SEG10); $5,600,000 for an Infrastructure Sector Grant for Public Schools; and $50,000 for the Pohnpei Hospital Emergency Generator Transfer Switch. The three Grants are provided by the US Department of the Interior, Office of Insular Affairs, and were officially accepted by Ambassador Yosiwo George of the FSM Embassy in Washington, D.C., on September 20, 2010. The SEG10 Grant is being provided pursuant to Section 105 of Public Law 108-188. The public law itself provides guidelines covering all sector grants made by the US to FSM. Grants are made for assistance in the sectors of education, health care, private sector development, the environment, public sector capacity building, or for other sectors as mutually agreed, "with priorities in the education and health care sectors." The infrastructure grants are being made available based upon project proposals submitted by the FSM National Government that were approved by the Joint Economic Management Committee. The Infrastructure Sector Grant for Public Schools will be applied towards phase 2 of the building projects for Nett Elementary School, Saladak Elementary School and Sapwalap Elementary School. |
