FSM donates over $50,000 to the Marshall IslandsPalikir, POHNPEI (FSM Congress/FSM Information Services): September 30, 2005 - The Government of the Federated States of Micronesia is donating over $50,000 to the Micronesian Red Cross Society for assistance towards recovery efforts of the recent Majuro Hospital fire. On September 16 2005, a fire had ravaged the only hospital on Majuro, the capitol atoll of the Republic of the Marshall Islands destroying a large area of the facilities along with medical and pharmaceutical supplies. According to RMI Government reports, no lives were lost in the fire. The FSM Government's funding of $50,000 will be presented to the local MRCS while air transportation arrangements have been made between the Department of Health, Education and Social Affairs and Continental Airlines and the Asian Pacific Air for transport of medical, pharmaceutical and hospital related supplies to the Marshall Islands. These medical and pharmaceutical donations are expected to arrive in the Marshall Islands today, September 30 2005. |
