China's Ambassador Yang presents credentials to FSMPalikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): October 1, 2004 - Ambassador Yang Qiang of the People's Republic of China became the newest member of the resident Diplomatic Corps to the Federated States of Micronesia on September 24, 2004. A ceremony in the President's Cabinet room witnessed the diplomatic transaction of letter of recall and presentation of credentials for Ambassador Yang who succeeds former Ambassador Zhang Binhua to become the PROC Fifth Ambassador to the FSM since the establishment of diplomatic ties in September 1989. Ambassador Yang referenced the progress of the relationship between the two saying, "since the establishment of diplomatic relations 15 years ago the two countries have witnessed rapid development is bilateral relations [...] and continuous achievements in the bilateral exchanges in cooperation in trade, economic, cultural and educational areas." The Ambassador continued that the Chinese Government stands ready to work with the FSM Government to "build on the momentum and bring our relations to new heights." President Joseph J. Urusemal, expressed similar views that the relationship has developed into "one that is healthy, prosperous and productive." He recounted his meeting with President Hu Jintao during his State Visit to China where the two leaders reiterated the need to work closely and cooperatively. President Urusemal said that through the continued mutual and cooperative efforts of the two countries, " this relationship would continue to thrive and flourish." The President welcomed Ambassador Yang to the FSM and expressed confidence that the Ambassador would continue to "promote and strengthen the friendly relations between our two governments and people." Ambassador Yang has extensive background in Foreign Affairs, beginning his service in the Ministry in 1972. He held various high-ranking positions in Ministry, as Director General for Finance, then Auditing Bureau to Service Center. The Ambassador's international assignments range from postings in Europe, Africa and Asia. Ambassador Yang's accreditation to the FSM has included the Pacific region to his international postings. Along with the President, witnesses to Ambassador Yang's credential ceremony included: Pohnpei Acting Governor Jack E. Yakana, the Diplomatic Corps, members of the President's cabinet, the Ambassador's wife - Mrs. Zhang Guizhun and various officials from the FSM National Government. The annual commemoration of the founding of PROC has been scheduled for September 30th at the Cliff Rainbow Restaurant. This year marks the 55th Anniversary. |
